Based at the University of Kent, meeting every Wednesday for silent meditation and informal discussion.
The meditation group
includes people of all ages - students, staff, visitors and residents – and of all religious and non-religious backgrounds. All are welcome to come as often or as occasionally as they wish, without any charges or obligations, to take the opportunity to refresh the mind and to develop their meditation practice.
The meditation period is normally a silent sitting meditation, with some people using the chairs and others their own cushions on the floor. Sometimes a talk or guided introduction is listened to. Conversation before and after the meditation is friendly and totally informal, on topics ranging from football and travel to Buddhism and different meditation practices. Regular meditation can easily slip in a busy life, and weekly group meditation and discussion is very supportive to individual practice.
The meetings also offer an opportunity to people interested in experiencing meditation with the minimum of formal teaching. The group occasionally makes a day visit to one of the Buddhist monasteries, and sometimes one of the monks visits this area and is able to speak at a meeting here.
